OMG OMG OMG OMG
There are risks to getting into ordering in -- because there may be no limit to WHAT can be ordered in. During a recent post-surgery-hiding-in-the-condo binge, my partner discovered Foxtrot (aka Foxtrot Delivery Market). More importantly, she discovered that ice cream can be ordered in in Chicago. And, even more importantly than that, she discovered that Jeni's Ice Cream can be ordered in -- in Chicago.
So: we did it.
We know Jeni's Ice Cream, of course. (See here for some words from near the initial discovery.) What we did not know was that it could be delivered in a very short time -- and that we would get a $10 off for the first time use. This should have led us to save money, but instead, it led us to get 3 pints of ice cream rather than two. (Even two is indulgent.) We got: (salty peanut with chocolate flecks), darkest chocolate, and Roxbury road (which turns out to be a variant -- well worth it -- on rocky road).
One thing worth noting: from Foxtrot, Jeni's pints cost $10 each. This is less than it costs ordering on Jeni's website and less than it has cost in grocery stores in Chicago. Hmmm.
More generally on the delivery service: they deliver all sorts of ice cream (though not Dana Cree's) and a variety of snacks, home items, meals, and things. As my partner put it, it is like a late night graduate student binge worthy delivery site. They also have around the corner IRL stores. The delivery was quick, accurate, and the 3 pints came in a lovely brown paper bag so people could think it was a bottle of wine? I recommend Foxtrot for your silly impulses.
And: readers -- while I have your attention: if any of you can get to Jeni or, by amazing chance are Jeni -- if you are out there somewhere -- bring back buck eye that is more like the original. The relatively newly named salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks is a pale shadow of the former glory -- too few chocolate flecks, and well, just not as good. The salt is wonderful. The peanuts-ness is there. But -- TOO FEW CHOCOLATE FLECKS. Yes, I keep buying it -- and eating it -- and my partner and I smile as we spoon it up. But: it is not anywhere near its former glory.
I do, though, like the marshmallows in the Roxbury. And, I do like Foxtrot Delivery. It is indulgent. We deserved it.
